Comfortable safari style bordering Makgadikgadi Pans National Park
Found on the remote shores of a private concession in the Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, Kalahari Camp offers up a an ideal base for those looking to experience a unique area of Botswana in traditional safari camp style. The Makgadikgadi Saltpans stretch as far as the eye can see through the Kalahari Desert in the dry season, while rains in the wet season brings herds of zebra and wildebeest though the plains. Camp Kalahari nestles there, between the bush and the desert where the lack of electricity allows you to release your inner explorer.
At the lodge
A welcoming central lounge and adjoining dining area resides underneath a permanent structure of traditional thatch and large acacia trees. The floors are covered in rattan rugs and a mix of printed textiles and rugs. Sticking with the bygone days of exploration theme comfortable cushioned chairs and various African artefacts decorate up the spacious interior, romantically lit by hurricane lanterns at night. A small swimming pool with shady thatch sits off to the side- perfect for cooling down.
Ten spacious Meru styled canvas tents sit facing out towards the bush, one tent being strung together to form a larger family unit. Steel framed bed cots support plush bedding adorned with traditional African pattern fabrics. Decorated with storage chests, simple wooden desks and ethnic printed carpets the roll up side windows show off the beautiful surrounds. Ensuite bathrooms open to the sky with triangular pattered wooden frames provide a true bush shower experience.
Two seasons run through the Park, the wet sees migrating zebra and wildebeest moving through the ecosystem, while the dry means you are able to get on to quad bikes and explore the pan Lawrence of Arabia style. Walk with Bushmen learning their traditional craft, engage with a family of resident meerkats, visit the famous Chapman’s Baobab or enjoy the game drives. Activities are set to a program for each day, so bare that in mind when you book.
