Duma Tau Camp
A balanced blend of luxury tenting and plentiful game
Duma Tau Camp
This stylish eco-conscious tented camp is situated in the bountiful Linyanti concession, near the source of the Savute Channel, in northern Botswana. Set amongst swamps, floodplains and mopane woodlands, Duma Tau is surrounded by lagoons teeming with hippo and water birds. Duma Tau means ‘roar of the lion’ and, as its name suggests, the camp offers great big cat sightings. Predators aside, it is also known for its large concentrations of elephants, as well as a rich variety of other game. Overall, a high quality facility that roars with offerings.
At the lodge
Duma Tau’s sprawling communal areas are set in two adjacent tents, with comfortable furniture that is laid out in a way that makes it both sociable and private. There are campfires at both the secluded waterside area and the floating deck, where evening sundowners are enjoyed with a side serving of natural beauty. The conveniently positioned plunge pool offers instant refreshment, night or day. The decor is luxurious yet rustic, with light wood and natural finishes, a wonderful collection of historic artifacts that attract the interest of many a curious visitor.
Duma Tau Camp consists of ten en-suite thatched and canvas tents, two of which are designed for families. Elevated and built beneath African ebony, sausage and mangosteen trees, Duma Tau has a light, contemporary look with whitewashed wooden floors and natural-coloured furnishings. Large double or twin beds surrounded by mosquito nets are primed for peaceful sleep, while the overhead fan keeps you cool. The comfortable chairs on your private viewing deck are splendid for soaking up the stunning river views.
Activities are aplenty. Day and night game drives reveal a wealth of wildlife, while guided walks give you a unique perspective on things and show you the subtleties that can be missed by vehicle. Unfortunately walks are dependant on guide availability, which thankfully is not usually an issue. Seasonal barge and boating trips are an especially relaxing way to explore the waters, while seasonal catch and release fishing makes for a relaxing and memorable pastime. There are also a number of viewing decks or hides which make ideal spots for private dinners, picnics and sundowners.
