Governors's IL Moran Camp
Taking the Governor’s tried, tested and truly excellent formula to the next level, Il Moran is the one for honeymooners, couples and anyone looking for a little piece of secluded privacy. In a quintessential and wonderfully romantic Mara picture, the 10 tents wind their way down a bend of the Mara River in the beautiful Musiara Sector of the reserve, shaded by the branches of ancient fig trees. With handsome Victorian bathtubs to fall into at the end of an active day and long, lazy candlelit dinners under a starry sky to look forward to, you might find yourself never wanting to leave.
At the lodge
Meals are an experience in themselves at Il Moran; start your day with tea and pastries on the deck by the river before lunch in the shade of the tall evergreens that line the bank and dinner around a flickering camp fire. There’s a pretty dining and bar tent too, but in a setting so beautiful it would be a shame not to make the most of the exquisite surroundings. In the evenings, flickering lanterns light the pathways and hippo grunt softly from the river below.
Recently reduced from 20 to 10 to lessen the impact on the environment, the Meru-style tents are perfectly positioned along the Mara River for ultimate (and private) wildlife-watching. Relax in the hammock on the veranda or settle down in a chair and get serious with your binos for the perfect afternoon siesta. Inside, hand-carved, olive wood furniture is elegant yet functional and the bathrooms are enormous and come complete with delectable toiletries and vast free-standing bathtubs, as well as hot showers.
There are three activities a day from Il Moran, typically game drives, but we recommend a walking safari in the early morning if time allows. Exploring the bush on foot is an experience like no other! Balloon safaris and cultural visits are also available, and if you time your visit carefully (July – October) you may be lucky enough to witness herds of the Great Migration stampeding across the Mara River. Otherwise, relax in camp and let the game come to you…
