An exclusive retreat in the midst of the Greater Mara
If you were to imagine your very own house in the middle of the bush, chances are you would come up with Mara Bush House. Tucked away in the Ol Chorro Losoit Valley at the northernmost tip of the Mara North Conservancy, the views of undulating green hills and grassy tussocks are magnificent and the game, even better. The house itself is warm and inviting and with 3 double bedrooms, perfect for a group of friends or family. And forget the hassle of planning meals and activities – there’s a fabulous team of chefs and a house manager to take care of your every need.
At the lodge
Mara House is all about cosy colonial character and the stone and wood building has high thatched ceilings and rooms full of comfy armchairs, old wooden furniture and colourful furnishings. The piece de resistance however is the vast veranda, a stunning outside space where meals are served accompanied by the twittering of birds and gentle rumbling of elephants. There’s also a swimming pool and braai area, shared by next door Acacia House.
2 of the ensuite bedrooms are at the back of the house, with views out to a pretty courtyard whilst the third is at the front, overlooking the waterhole. It’s hard to choose a favourite as all are beautifully decorated in soothing tones, with big beds and antique writing desks, but one of the bathrooms has a splendid, sunken bath tub which possibly swings the vote! There’s also a small 4th bedroom that can be used if required.
There are no schedules to stick to at Mara and your guide will help you plan however many activities you would like to do and at what time. Choose from game drives in the conservancy or into the Mara Reserve, walks and night drives. If you’re interested in community projects, there are visits to the nearby village, schoolroom and markets or simply soak up the sun by the swimming pool. There’s also a fun and interactive children’s program on offer.
