At the lodge
Motswari's thatch-and-stone communal spaces are centrally located within the camp. The large and welcoming dining and lounge areas flow from the interior to the treed outdoor space, providing plenty of intimate corners for privacy. The style combines colonial with modern living. The walls are lined with photographs and African artworks, and the upholstered sofas, heavy wood tables and wicker chairs provide a comfortable, homely environment. There is also a library and a curio shop. Outside is a traditional boma for meals and a swimming pool overlooking the river.
Fifteen intimate thatched rondavels (circular cottages) lie scattered along the riverbank, most with views of the river (or, in summer, its sandy bed) from the private verandas. Each room is simply designed in a rustic, African style, with a thatched roof and rough-plastered walls. Enjoy the understated luxury of a mosquito net-draped four-poster bed, airconditioning and an en-suite bathroom that includes a tub and both indoor and outdoor showers.
Game drives are the primary focus of a stay at Motswari. With such an abundance of game, there is no better way to track the Big Five. A walking safari is another option. ending with a night of fly camping – an experience that leaves you with a deeper connection with the environment. A guided bush walk highlights the lovely birdlife, as well as reptiles and insects. End the day at the Giraffe’s Nest Hide for a sleep-out beneath the African night sky.
