Okonjima Bush Camp
Intimate, relaxing and traditional African-styled camp of the Okonjima Collection
Okonjima Bush Camp
With just eight chalets, guests at Okonjima Bush Camp are assured of a personalised experience. The decor and design, clay and thatch open-fronted chalets and main areas, is atmospheric and warm with an abundance of rich African colours, textures and artwork. Days will be spent exploring the Okonjima reserve either in 4x4 vehicles or on foot. We would recommend a 2 night stay here to ensure you are able to tick off all the educational and excellent activities on offer. Children over the age of 12 years are welcome.
At the lodge
The main area is a large curved building, which overlooks a manicured lawn, small lake and the rolling plains in the distance. There is a curio shop, a restaurant with large wooden dining tables, indoor and outdoor fireplaces. There is also a small pool with sun loungers and much-needed shade from the midday sun.
There are eight double chalets and one honeymoon chalet at Okonjima Bush Camp. Each of the stone and thatched roof chalets has a wide canvas wall which can be rolled up to reveal a 180 degree panoramic views of the surrounding bush. There are ensuite showers, ceiling fans and AC, a lounge area, mini bar/ fridge and in-room telephones. They are decorated in rich African colours and natural materials have been used throughout.
Most guests visit Okonjima to learn about the highly successful AfriCat foundation, a not-for-profit organisation set up to support long-term conservation of Namibia's large carnivores, now the largest leopard and cheetah rescue and relocation programme in the world. Activities include tracking cheetah, leopard and hyenas - whilst seeing other wildlife on the reserve, Bushman trails, self-guided walking trails, night hide, birding and visits to the care and research centre.
