POD Boutique Hotel
Design with a capital ‘D’
POD Boutique Hotel
Camps Bay has long attracted the rich and fabulous with its glamorous bars and restaurants and if they were looking for somewhere to stay, POD would be it. Occupying possibly the best location in town, a minute’s stroll from the white sands of Camps Bay Beach, the ultra-hip boutique hotel is the zenith of modern design and architecture. We’re talking sleek, clean lines and sparkling glass walls in the open-plan interiors and a wraparound infinity pool and low-slung seating outside. Don’t let the design put you off however – it’s actually terribly relaxed and the team of butlers make sure you don’t need to lift a finger.
At the lodge
The hotel
Not dissimilar to a glossy cocktail lounge, the main ‘chillout area’ is full of deep grey sofas and lots of private corners to hide away in. But not many cocktail bars have floor to ceiling windows with those stunning Cape Town vistas… POD has no restaurant, bar a scrumptious buffet at breakfast, but with all the eateries in the city it’s really not a problem. There’s also a heated infinity pool (as sleek as its surroundings), gym, 24-hour concierge and late-departure lounge.
The rooms
Mirroring the exquisitely minimal design of the bar, the 17 bedrooms are sanctuaries of calm, with modish grey and black colour palettes, soft wood panelling and gentle LED lighting. Each has something different to offer, be it a private plunge pool, sun deck, dual rain-shower or balcony, but all come complete with stylish essentials – Nespresso machine, iPod dock and minibar of course. Views also range from mountain (Classic and Mountain) to beach and sea (Deluxe and Luxury) so choose your POD carefully…

Experiences
Start your day with eggs benedict on the terrace before strolling to the beach for some serious sun-lounging and sea-splashing – it’s so close, it would be rude not too! Alternatively, wander the pretty streets of Bo-Kaap and shop at the local boutiques on Long Street in the city or even take the hire car for a spin down Chapman’s Peak Drive or to Franschhoek for a spot of wine-tasting. Head home in time for a sundowner cocktail and dinner at the Roundhouse on Kloof Road.
