Pom Pom Camp
A camp for traditionalists - rustic and real
Pom Pom Camp
With an atmosphere of warmth and ease, this classically styled camp conjures the safaris of old, where fireside storytelling and debriefing the day's exploits, was as important and the game viewing itself. Built with canvas and traditional thatch, Pom Pom is simple and comfortable. Located in the heart of the Delta on an island of its namesake, the camp overlooks a permanent lagoon that commonly attracts elephant and hippo. Wildlife is prolific in this area and big cats are frequently seen. Seasonal water-based activities —motor boat and the traditional dugout canoe—are great ways to see game and the myriad birds.
At the lodge
A spacious thatch-roofed open lounge lies flush with a perennial lagoon, with a generous outdoor seating area between—the perfect place for stargazing and fireside chats. A sizeable pool joins the main area, as does the bar and dining room where delicious home cooked meals are shared. The curio shop stocks local baskets and safari basics.
Nine classic a-frame canvas tents fringe Pom Pom lagoon, one of which can sleep a family of four. En-suite bathrooms are open-air yet private. Plush beds and reading chairs provide all the comfort you need after a full day in the bush. This traditional tent offers everything you need and nothing you don't.
Game drives with your professional guide get you close to relaxed wildlife. Lion and cheetah can be seen, along with a host of other iconic species, from elephants and buffalo to baboons and, on occasion, honey badgers and the illusive pangolin. Take a motor boat or experience mokoro, the traditional mode of water-navigation powered by a standing poler; photograph bird species from a unique vantage or sit back and appreciate the pure music of life on the flood plains.
