Quality game viewing by day, pampering and relaxation at night
Siwandu is an intimate camp in a stunning setting overlooking the waters of Lake Nzerakera in the northeastern sector of Selous Game Reserve. Although it has just 13 tented suites, Siwandu has been divided into two more intimately sized camps – North Camp and South Camp, each with its own facilities. You're guaranteed an exclusive stay, with top-notch accommodation and days spent exploring by boat, game drive and bush walk.
At the lodge
Both North and South camps have individual thatched central areas for their guests, although South Camp may have the edge with its communal area raised on stilts to improve the view. Both lounges are welcoming, with African artwork and carvings, and plush sofas and chairs that invite you to settle back and admire your surroundings. Each camp also has a swimming pool, recliners and a deck on which meals (expect the best) are often served.
Tents at both North and South Camp have been designed to the same specs. Octagonal in shape and roofed in thatch, they are raised slightly off the ground with views of the lake. The furnishings are sumptuous, with large beds, full-length mirrors, dressers and even a writing desk on the private veranda. The bathroom is an extension of the bedroom, complete with his and hers sinks, an outside shower and hot running water.
Selous is one of the best destinations in Africa for out-of-vehicle experiences. Take a boating safari and encounter the region's wildlife from a different, often less-threatening position. Cruise with a cocktail in hand on a leisurely pontoon trip. Set off on a guided bush walk for an in-depth look at the wilderness, focusing on the small species and intimacies of nature you miss from a vehicle. And finally, always a winner, is a game drive to follow the numerous predators, elephant, buffalo and more.
