If you\u2019ve done any sort of research into African honeymoons, we\u2019re almost certain you\u2019ll have heard of a \u2018Bush and Beach\u2019 break. The classic honeymoon combination, it does exactly what it says on the tin – 10 days of post-wedding bliss split between safari and sun-lounger time. There\u2019s a reason it\u2019s a popular choice! Our favourite trip<\/a> takes newlyweds through some of our favourite Kenya<\/a> highlights: relax at Lake Naivasha<\/a> as you watch candy-floss pink clouds of flamingos drift by, enjoy front row seats to the safari action in the iconic Masai Mara<\/a>, and then finish your trip sprawled on the beach, book in one hand and a cocktail in the other. If it\u2019s wall-to-wall luxury you\u2019re after, then Mara Plains Camp<\/a> in the Masai Mara is the spot for you. This Hemingway-worthy nook is the last word in safari-luxe with its Persian rugs, copper baths and unbeatable access to the park\u2019s remarkable game viewing. For low-key beach chic in Diani<\/a>, we love the peaceful and stylish Diani Blue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Adventure<\/h2>\n

Those newlyweds in search of more of an adventuremoon, we\u2019ve got something for you too. If you\u2019re looking for an off-the-beaten-track, don\u2019t-know-anyone-else-that\u2019s-been-there, bragging-rights escape, let us introduce our \u2018Wilds of Northern Kenya<\/a>\u2019 trip. Whilst you\u2019ll still get to explore the safari wonderland that is the Masai Mara<\/a>, you\u2019ll also get a taste of a slightly more unexplored side of Kenya<\/a>. Seekers of something \u2018wild and remote\u2019 need look no further than Matthew\u2019s Range<\/a> (also known as the Lenkiyio Hills) in the north of the country. Adventurous couples can spend their days hiking the slopes, always keeping an eye out for some of the incredible wildlife that call the mountains home. Here you\u2019ll spot everything from elephant to giraffe to oryx, gazelle and zebra! And if all that weren\u2019t enough, you\u2019ll also get a chance to meet the local Samburu tribe<\/a> and understand their culture and way of life. Being as remote as it is, Matthew\u2019s Range doesn\u2019t offer an abundance of accommodation, but Kitich Camp<\/a> and Sarara Tented Camp<\/a> are both excellent (and romantic) options. With its 12 spacious tents and astonishing river-side locations, Elephant Bedroom Camp<\/a> is forever a favourite in Samburu<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wildlife and white sandy shores<\/h2>\n

Just because we\u2019re talking top Kenya<\/a> honeymoons, it doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t do a little country-hopping and see a bit more. Our Mara to Mahe<\/a> trip is perfect for those that want to combine some of Kenya\u2019s magnificent wildlife highlights with the unparalleled beaches of the Seychelles<\/a>. Visit one of Kenya\u2019s most abundant wildlife wonderlands in Lewa Downs<\/a>, a small but mighty area that packs a punch with both black and white rhino, elephant, giraffe, hippo, lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, wild dog\u2026 we could go on, but do we need to? Then, spend a few days in the Masai Mara<\/a> before heading off to the cloud-like beaches of the Seychelles. If you want guaranteed tropical island life then this is where you need to be. Located just south of the equator, the Seychelles enjoys blissful temperatures for almost 365 days of the year, so whether you\u2019re jetting off in the middle of a drizzly winter or hit-and-miss summer back home, you\u2019re almost certain to find some sunshine here.<\/p>\n

One of our favourite stopover spots in Nairobi<\/a>, Ololo Safari Lodge<\/a> is easy on the eye and the wallet! Lewa Wilderness Lodge<\/a> is a perfect jumping off spot to explore Laikipia Plateau<\/a>. It\u2019s stylish and unpretentious and has everything you\u2019re looking for. If you want to see the Mara in style, then it has to be the beloved Angama Mara<\/a>, easily one of our favourite lodges on the continent and set on the very hillside featured in the film Out of Africa. The Seychelles has a reputation for being home to some incredible luxury (hello North Island<\/a> and Six Senses Zil Pasyon<\/a>) but there are some deals to be found if you look for them. We love Mahe Island\u2019s Le Meridien Fisherman’s Cove<\/a> for providing all the creature comforts you\u2019ll need, right on the water\u2019s edge.<\/p>\n

Onto the tropical beaches of Nosy Be and here we love the Tsara Komba Lodge<\/a>. Despite topping our Kenya<\/a> honeymoon list, this adventure actually begins deep in the heart of Rwanda<\/a>, in Volcanoes National Park<\/a> to be exact. It\u2019s here that you and your beloved will come face to face with one of the most extraordinary creatures on this planet: the mountain gorilla<\/a>. To trek through a rainforest and see one of these beautiful beasts in the flesh is an experience like no other and it\u2019s no wonder it regularly tops the must-do-before-you-die lists for most travellers. And if that wasn\u2019t enough of a bucket list adventure, you\u2019ll then hop on a short flight to, yes you guessed it, Kenya\u2019s Masai Mara<\/a>! Spend a couple of days soaking up the magic of the Mara, before heading to the luscious Amboseli & Chyulu Hills<\/a> for more wildlife and incredible views.<\/p>\n

Your one night stopover in Kigali<\/a> can still be extremely chic and The Retreat by Heaven<\/a> is a stylish, eco-friendly and more-than-satisfying spot to rest your head for a night (or two!). Volcanoes National Park has a great selection of lodges and no matter what your budget is, there will be something for you. We love the Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel<\/a> for their excellent post-hike massages and the incredible service given to all their guests, but if you\u2019re looking for luxury, you can\u2019t do better than opulent, glamorous, architecture-like-you\u2019ve-never-seen-before Bisate<\/a>. Back in the Mara and onto one of our favourites, Speke’s Camp<\/a>. Sprinkled with ancient artefacts, its a return to the safaris of old but with modern-day luxuries like Wifi and flushing loos – the best of both worlds! Our must-stay spot in Amboseli & Chyulu Hills has to be Ol Donyo Lodge<\/a> with its grand, sweeping views of a well-populated water hole, lush green backdrop and Mount Kilimanjaro<\/a> residing over it all.<\/p>\n
