We don’t know about you but our imaginations are constantly running rampant as we dream of relocating ourselves to far flung destinations. Picture yourself trekking through the lush, overgrown forests of the Congo, driving the vast desert landscape of Namibia or exploring truly unchartered territory in Chad. We’ve put together our favourite wild and off-the-beaten-track safari destinations to get your travel juices flowing, so read on and start planning!

Odzala in the Congo

A hotspot of biodiversity, Odzala shows off the very best of what the central Africa region has to offer. Think rainforests and rivers, savannas and swamps, gorilla and many more endangered flora and fauna, this is Africa like you’ve never seen her before.

Kaokoland in Namibia

You really can’t get more remote than Kaokoland, the wild and rugged home of the Himba people in Namibia’s far north. It’s a region of extremes; arid deserts and mountain ranges vie for attention with watery oases of tall grass, lush palms and even Nile crocodiles! Sounds like the perfect off-the-beaten-track safari spot…

Dzanga-Sangha in the Central African Republic

You can’t get much more untouched and magical than Dzanga-Sangha, with lush rainforests which hark back to a land that time forgot. You’ll be hundreds of miles from another soul as you creep through the greenery to spy on the rare tree pangolin and track western lowland gorilla.

North Luangwa in Zambia

Its far-flung location, absence of roads and abundance of wildlife make North Luangwa perfect for an intrepid adventure. Say hello to a bona fide off-the-beaten-track safari! With no permanent lodges and barely any other travellers in sight, this is the place to explore on foot as you track the magnificent nearby animals.

São Tomé and Príncipe

With their ancient volcanoes, thick green forests, and plentiful adventure, São Tomé and Príncipe offer island life but not as you know it. Wild and testing hiking routes, golden beaches, bewitching forests and turquoise waters – it’s the intoxicating paradise you’ve dreamed of.

Zakouma in Chad

Sandwiched between the sun-baked Sahara and lush rainforests, Zakouma is an entirely unique and beautiful place. African Parks has transformed Zakouma into a safe haven for a large variety of Central and West African wildlife resulting in an off-the-beaten-track safari experience.
