The focus at Tengile is on high-spec modern design – think sleek lines and clever, contemporary finishes – yet it doesn’t look out a whisker out of place in the bush. Instead, the overall feel is elegant and light, and there are a multitude of spaces both indoor and outdoor for socialising (or to hide away in!). As well as dining decks with magnificent views over the river, the main area is home to a stunning central bar area, plenty of squashy sofas and reading nooks, an outdoor firepit, a gym and a spa.
The nine delicate suites follow the curve of the Sand River and each is perfectly positioned to make the most of the views over the wilderness. All have private verandas shaded by the boughs of the trees, with a sunken seating area and lap pool – hello siesta time! – and inside, ensuite bathrooms with fabulous alfresco showers and super-size beds. There are two dedicated family suites with inter-leading doors (which would be good for a small group too) however the living areas in each of the rooms can cleverly convert into sleeping areas for kids too.
The Big Five are a big drawcard in the Sabi Sands, an unfenced reserve that’s roughly the size of the state of New Jersey! You’ll be able to explore the area on game drives and walks with &Beyond’s exceptional guides and as well as big cats and hooved beasties, expect to tick off several species on your bird list. Specialist photography guides and lessons are available if you’d like to brush up your camera skills and there’s a gym and a spa to while away the hours in too.
A pioneer in sustainable tourism since 1991, &Beyond aims to expand its impact by 2030. Through partnerships and doubling investment, they have set a target of conserving 40 million acres of key biospheres while offering exclusive travel experiences. By doubling revenue and tripling profit, they seek to leave a positive footprint in Africa, Asia, and South America, empowering communities and preserving wildlife.
A safari that surpasses every expectation awaits in this vast wilderness just west of the Kruger National Park.
