The main area is warm and homely. Here you'll find a small bar (the barman is quite happy to climb a tree should you require a fresh coconut) and a restaurant overlooking the beach. All the meals are fresh and delicious, with a focus on local seafoods. Outside is a plunge pool. There are barbecue facilities, free Wi-Fi throughout and a tour desk for arranging outings (and the packed lunches you'll need to sustain you).
Three houses can be booked separately or collectively for small groups. Colonial Arabic-style Dua House has two sun terraces, an interior sunken lounge and a well-equipped kitchen. Cool and modern Poa House has a private rooftop sun terrace and sleeps four in private double rooms that open on to the beach. Toto House has a ground-level family suite, with a double bed and three single beds. All have pool or sea views, a seating area and outdoor dining area.
The sea is the main attraction here, and the nearby watersports centre has all the gear you'll need. The diving in the area is excellent, as is the snorkelling. Expert kite-surfing tuition is offered and boats and equipment can be rented for kayaking. Go sailing in a local dhow or ngalawa. Explore Matemwe village, take a guided tour to Stone Town or an intoxicating spice farm, or head off on a bike. And, of course, there's that long seductive beach.
