The raised main area, with its tin roof, open sides and wooden floors, is set in a shady grove, with up-close views of the waterhole and the bush beyond. Here, long communal tables are where you'll take your meals (kudos to the chef!), and there's plenty of colour in the various seating areas. At its heart is a sunken fire pit, perfect for storytelling and stargazing at night. Green lawns lead to the pool, with sunloungers and plenty of shade.
The 15 slightly raised tents are enormous rectangular structures, with decor that is simple, elegant and very comfortable. Entry is via an open-air furnished porch, and through foldaway canvas flaps and a mesh zip door. Inside, there's a king-sized bed (or two twins), kitted with mosquito netting and good quality linens. At the foot of the bed is a large day bed for lolling and gazing, and, to one side, a desk. En-suite bathrooms have double showers and double basins.
The camp's location on a private conservancy offers several benefits not available in neighbouring Kruger: guided walking safaris, night drives, and less crowded viewings. The guides are amazing – simply tell them what you'd like to see, and voila! Nevertheless, Kruger is definitely worth visiting. This is Big Five country, so you're highly likely to see the major bush players, along with giraffe, hyena, cheetah, antelope and birds galore, plus lesser-known creatures like bushbaby and pangolin. You'll not be disappointed!
Nature lovers will be in heaven in this lesser-known reserve where the true meaning of a safari is revealed.
