A long, earth-toned elevated structure forms the centre of camp. Although the word "camp" is an understatement – with a temperature-regulated wine cellar, this is decidedly sophisticated. From here you can watch wildlife meander past from a wicker sofa or a seat at the broad dining table. In this area, lounging and dining and in-betweening happens throughout the day, whether you're enjoying a drink on the veranda, a good book in the open-sided lounge, or invigorating laps in the pool.
Fifteen luxury tents sit raised on platforms on either side of the main area. Just outside each tent, on the elevated porch and under cover, a leather sofa-clad lounge area acts as an ideal inside-out space to put your feet up. Through secured flaps you'll find the bedroom, with its king-sized or two twin beds dressed with mosquito netting. A sunken concrete bath is a superb addition to the bathroom, which also has a double basin and shower.
Set on a private conservancy that's unfenced from neighbouring Kruger, the camp's siting has several obvious benefits: walking safaris with a guide (those here are top-class), night drives, game viewing with a limited number of vehicles. But expansive Kruger Park is nearby, and definitely worth getting to. The chance to see the major bush players – lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, rhino, buffalo, hyena, cheetah, plus some lesser-known species like honey badgers and porcupine, make this spot hard to fault. Bring your best camera for those special up-close images.
Nature lovers will be in heaven in this lesser-known reserve where the true meaning of a safari is revealed.
