The main building houses a fully stocked bar complete with a big screen TV for those who need to stay connected to the outside world. After a dusty day exploring, the sparkling swimming pool beckons, strategically positioned to offer views over Elim Dune – possibly the most spectacular backdrop for an afternoon dip you'll ever find. For sociable evenings, the two communal boma areas are ideal for swapping desert stories with fellow travellers, especially if you're in a group. Don't fancy cooking? The nearby Sossusvlei Lodge restaurant offers tasty meals, and their Adventure Centre can arrange all manner of exciting desert activities.
The 24 air-conditioned units sit comfortably in the landscape, each offering twin beds, a fold-out sleeper couch (which can accommodate two children under 12 for free when sharing with adults), and all the mod-cons needed for a comfortable stay. Each patio comes equipped with a barbecue facility and a fitted kitchenette with a two-plate hob and under-counter fridge – perfect for those evenings when you fancy dining under the stars. The en-suite bathrooms, with shower, toilet and wash basin, provide welcome refreshment after a day in the heat. Two wheelchair-friendly units are available close to the main building, with accessible showers and no steps to navigate.
The Sesriem gate is a short drive from the lodge, and from here, the Namib-Naukluft National Park and the famous Sossusvlei sand dunes can be explored. Guided sundowner drives are available, with the chance of encountering some of the desert-adapted wildlife such as oryx, mountain zebra and smaller predators like jackal and lynx. Hiking in the mountains is possible, and there are a number of organised tours, including quad biking and scenic flights, which can be booked at Sossusvlei Lodge.
