Sitting in well-maintained, grassy gardens, the lodge has a wonderful connection with nature. The communal areas are mostly open-sided so you can make the most of the view - and keep your eyes peeled for birdlife too. The meals are hearty and you may find yourself chatting with fellow travellers at the stone bar. If you're not venturing out, grab a book from the shelf and settle down at the poolside lapa, then go for a dip when the temperature rises.
Set amongst the trees, there is a collection of thatched chalets with flagstone floors, thick trunk-like columns, and a private veranda. The four-poster beds are large and plush, topped with patterned scatter cushions and surrounded by trusty mosquito nets. All bathrooms have a shower, whilst a select few also have a sunken tub! The family cottage has two bedrooms with three beds in each, a kitchen, dining area and lounge. The property also has 10 camp sites, set comfortably apart, with fire pits and barbecue stands - firewood and charcoal can be bought from the bar.
The grounds are idyllic and you can grab a map from reception before setting off to enjoy a walk in the woodland and spot the local birdlife. Head into the city for a real Lusaka experience, where you can visit markets loaded with clothing, carvings and souvenirs. You could also have a taste of the city's cuisine at one of its many restaurants - or simply lay out by the pool and enjoy a little downtime before or after your adventure.
The commercial heart of the copper country, Lusaka is a quirky and perfectly ‘African’ capital city.
