Enter by way of the interior courtyard, with its garden riotous with fynbos, the indigenous local flora. Step inside and the 180-degree views of the harbour make for an arresting first impression. The guesthouse is warm and light with a contemporary design that's softened with natural materials. The walls of the lounge and sitting room/library feature a gallery of original artworks. Breakfast is served outside on the long deck and lawn, and the pool area is wind-protected.
There are 15 spaciously crisp and comfortable bedrooms throughout the guesthouse, nine of which are sea-facing, while the remainder have views of the garden. Sea-view rooms have large windows and sliding doors, king-sized beds and en-suite bathrooms. One is a family room, able to sleep three in two en-suite bedrooms. Garden suites are spacious with a lovely cottagey feel; their bed configurations vary but all have en-suite bathrooms. The family unit sleeps three and has a shared bathroom.
You're spoiled for choice in Hermanus, with the ocean on your doorstep and the mountains to your rear. The ocean is the star attraction, of course, and can be explored in a myriad ways: kayaking in the bay, an ocean safari (looking out for sharks, whales, dolphins and penguins), snorkelling and diving. There's spectacular hiking in the local reserves, and a coastal trail to wander. Lovers of fine wines and dining should head to the nearby Hemel en Aarde valley.

It’s famous for whale-watching, but the wine is also worth a taste in this laidback coastal town.
