Kaokoland is Namibia at its most stripped-back: ochre crags, gravel plains and ephemeral rivers that flow perhaps once a decade. The Hoanib is one of them, and the ana trees along its banks push roots 40 metres down to water nobody can see. That hidden supply is why the elephants come. Opened in 2026 and run in partnership with the Sesfontein conservancy, this ten-tent camp sits on the river's northern bank, a long way from anywhere and unapologetic about it. Days are spent tracking elephant, black rhino and Angolan giraffe across country that looks borrowed from another planet. Bring proper binoculars.
