The Linyanti River and Savuti channel are the only real sources of permanent water in the area, and are a magnet for large animals in the dry winter months. National Geographic film-makers Dereck and Beverly Joubert, shot one of their most famous documentaries, Eternal Enemies, about the war between lions and hyenas, in this area. Needless to say, a game drive along the river is a wonder for spotting big cats—lion and leopard—hunting along the rivers, and the wily hyenas following close behind. Also keep an eye out for the large herds of elephants, one of the largest populations of pachyderms anywhere in Africa.
