Amanjiwo overlooks the fertile Kedu Plain, where volcanic soil nourishes rice paddies and fields of fresh produce, handpicked daily to use in the flavoursome dishes. Dining can be enjoyed in the restaurant with a side of views, including the incredible Borobudur, or head for the poolside terrace for healthy smoothie bowls and fresh salads. Dedicated to holistic wellness, the spa menu is inspired by traditional Javanese healing rituals, and facilities include an outdoor relaxation balé and 40-metre pool.
The rooms at Amanjiwo are impeccably designed with Javanese motifs and a particular nod to the temple of Borobudur. The bright, open suites feature four-pillar king-sized beds on raised terrazzo platforms and spa-like bathrooms, some with a sunken outdoor tub. There is light wooden detailing throughout and the Aman signature minimalist aesthetic. The most luxurious suites have private pools and the largest, with its own private entrance, has two bedrooms. Each looks out across either the rice fields, Menoreh Hills or Borobudur itself.
Central Java is jam-packed with temples including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the Prambanan Temple Complex, Pawon and Mendut, and the ancient Hindu temples of the Dieng Plateau. Discover their history and significance on a tour with one of the in-house anthropologists. The surrounding countryside is also ideal for exploring on foot: explore tiny villages amongst fragrant clove plantations or picnic on the slopes of Mount Sumbing. You can also enjoy a lesson in the art of Jemparingan Mataram archery or participate in the renowned Ruwatan purification ritual.
