Sheltered by walls of greenery, Amansara is mod and stylish with rustic stone columns and sandstone patios. Lined by loungers, the pool is rather inviting and there's a smaller lap pool for even more privacy. Once a vibrant dance hall, the circular dining room (and bar) is a minimalist dream with linen-topped tables, a plush lounge and glass doors flung open to let in the garden air. Tuck into well-chosen Khmer and western dishes - the Australian beef with a Kampot peppercorn is divine! Sunrise yoga can be enjoyed at the open-air studio or on the rooftop for the best views.
Softly finished with pale terrazzo and timber, the open-plan suites have polished, retro furnishings including a pillowy bed, writing desk and lounge. Expansive glass doors lead into a sunny courtyard decorated with ornate carvings and cushioned spots to recline - and some have a private pool. The bathrooms are in-suite (the toilet and rain shower are separate) with a superb island bath and slick, black vanities. The air-conditioned suites are well-stocked with a sound system, mini bar and a daily supply of fruits, cheese and freshly-baked treats.
A trip to Siem Reap means a day (or more!) spent amongst the monumental ruins of Angkor Wat where you'll see the world-famous bas reliefs at these ancient temples. Join a Buddhist monk for walking meditation in the forest and a water blessing to send you safely on your travels. If you're feeling adventurous, trek into the jungle to spot a gibbon as they lollop through the trees or explore the countryside in a jeep. Spend time at a village home where you'll learn to cook up some local favourites and catch a performance by the dazzling Cambodian circus.
