About Angala Boutique Hotel & Guest House

Wind through the winelands to reach this hidden haven – great for yoga fans
Tucked into a green valley in the palm of Franschhoek's mountains, Angala is more than a winelands retreat. This is where you come if you want a revitalising private break. Not only is the guesthouse discreetly located, it's small, so takes just a few visitors at a time. Come for the sights, the winelands and the lovely town, but also for your health – there's a sauna, a natural swimming pool and a second ozonated heated pool. Practise your asanas in the studio or garden (many Cape Town yoga centres host retreats at Angala), and relax in luxurious accommodation.

Property details

The property

Surrounded by trees and those magnificent peaks, Angala's main area has a wonderful wide veranda that beckons you to gaze at the views. There’s an outdoor lounge with a massive built-in fireplace and soft seating. The adjacent dining room overlooks the much-talked-about eco pool (yes, you will swim with tadpoles). There are enough sunloungers to go around. The furnishings' muted white and cream tones enhance the retreat atmosphere. And the cuisine? It's delicious five-star fabulous.

The rooms

Accommodation options range from deluxe rooms to spacious executive suites and private cottages. All are arranged to ensure you the utmost privacy and relaxation, with breathtaking views, an outdoor/ indoor bathroom option (the River Cottage even has a bath under the stars) and a terrace to enjoy the surroundings. If you’re planning to stay a while, book an executive suite – each has a comfortable lounge and fireplace. All guest rooms are equipped with a yoga mat and Pilates equipment.

Activities

Make use of your room's yoga mat and Pilates core performer. Then head for the sauna to let off some steam, take a plunge in the heated swimming pool or the natural pool to enrich your skin with essential minerals. Or book a massage. Franschhoek is only a 20-minute drive away. There you can visit the major wine estates, journey on the wine tram or cruise the coffee bars, restaurants and boutiques lining the main road.
