The original farmhouse has a wonderful country-style feel, with a comfortable guest lounge and open fireplace. Breakfast is served outdoors in the shade of magnificent centuries-old oak trees, or in the charming courtyard dining room. A pretty walled garden at the front of the house has a large swimming pool and sun deck, with stunning views of the vineyards and rugged mountains beyond. There is also a tennis court in the grounds, should you feel like some exercise.
Six guest rooms are individually decorated in soft tones reminiscent of the lavender fields of Provence, with a distinct Cape winelands charm. Each is en suite, with underfloor heating and air conditioning. Loft rooms have far-reaching views over the Franschhoek valley, and garden rooms open on to shaded vine-covered patios with views of the vineyard and orchards. Honeymooning? The old wine cellar is now a spacious honeymoon suite, a romantic hideaway beneath a hand-painted ceiling of clouds and birds.
At the front of the guesthouse, a large swimming pool in a private walled garden is a wonderful spot to soak up the surrounding vineyards and mountain backdrop. A tennis court offers something a bit more energetic, and guests are free to wander through the beautiful gardens, along the oak-lined river and surrounding vineyards. This region is well known for its network of challenging hiking and mountain-bike trails. Wine-tasting tours, golf and horse riding can be arranged.
