About Bayete Guest Lodge

A pocket - and people-friendly B&B with a lush garden and lovely, quaint atmosphere.
Bayete Guest House is located just three kilometers from the heart of the historic town of Victoria Falls and the best vantage point from which to view the mighty Falls itself (locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya - "the smoke that thunders"). More than a mile wide, straddling the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, the falls boasts several impressive statistics, though one needn't quantify its supreme beauty or the experience of watching the Zambezi River dive into the First Gorge. This relatively small, well-managed family-run guest house offers convenience and guidance to help travellers make the most of an area that can often feel overwhelming for its dizzying range of options. It's good to note that a visit here is best between May and October when the water flow isn't so heavy as to shroud the falls.

Property details

The property

Central to this intimate guest house is a rambling, high-ceilinged thatched structure, home to the Caldecott Dining Boma and the Ingwezi Tavern; here tasty fare is served, cold brews are a-plenty and the atmosphere is buzzing. Just outside is the central patio area with a delightful teardrop swimming pool, oodles of shade and comfy garden seating. There's an outdoor dining area too, a barbecue and fireside seating - the perfect place to recount the day's adventures.

The rooms

Choose from four styles of accommodation at Bayete - a deluxe room, executive or honeymoon suite or the family cottage. Whichever you choose you'll have everything you need to feel right at home - an ensuite bathroom, air-con and tea and coffee facilities. The deluxe room is spacious and sleeps two. The honeymoon and executive suites each sleep two as well, though they have a few added luxuries including a free-standing Victorian bathtub. The executive suite has an inter-leading door that can be used for easy access between rooms, if desired - perfect for couples traveling together. The family room is equipped with a double bed and three single beds.

Activities

Vic Falls is a hub for adventure travelers with a seemingly innumerable array of adrenaline activities centering around the Falls and the Zambezi River. Besides viewing it from the adjacent national park, there are several way to grasp the grandeur of Victoria Falls: a helicopter flight above it and the staggered canyons, a rafting trip through the mighty rapids below, bungee jumping and gorge swinging - not to mention the host of cultural experiences to be had in outlying areas, as well as decent wildlife regions nearby. Bayete is well-connected and can assist you in organizing any of the fifty or so activities on offer.

Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

If you're up for it (and the water levels allow), take a raft down the Zambezi for a thrilling sense of this mighty river and the canyons it has carved out over the aeons. It's not for the faint of heart - but it's great fun!
Something to think about

Something to think about

Bayete is in the suburbs, about five minutes from town in a taxi, so if you want to explore you'll have to ask the hotel to order you one.
