About Beho Beho Camp

Traditional stone cottages in a beautiful, peaceful area of Nyerere.
Beho Beho was the first accommodation to be built in the cooler highlands of the Nyerere National Park ('The Selous'). It's a private, family-owned camp overlooking a river gorge that carves through the famed reserve and the views are spot on. Sleeping-wise, there are nine spacious palm-leaf and stone cottages (or bandas), spread out to either side of the main house and there's also a treehouse for a more intimate night-time wildlife experience. As well as excellent game viewing, expect to be fed and watered extremely well and your every request catered for.

Property details

The property

The main lodge offers panoramic views over the Rufiji river flood plains. It is furnished in the style of a private house, with comfortable seating and dining areas, and very few walls. There is also a full-sized billiards table, a study with personal computer, the Eagle’s Nest, a Lookout banda and the Parade Ground for communal meals. The swimming pool has magnificent views of the Kipalala Valley. After a dip, guests can sunbathe or relax in the shade.

The rooms

The camp consists of nine spacious palm-leaf thatched cottages (or bandas) built from local stone. The main suite is open in the front, but a canvas curtain can be drawn across at night. There are comfortable chairs, a huge mosquito-netted bed, a Zanzibari day-bed, a writing bureau, Persian carpets and a tripod-mounted telescope to spot game. The banda also has a separate dressing room, bathroom and open-air shower.

Activities

Beho Beho offers the option of guided and guarded walking safaris or game drives. For an intimate wildlife experience, guests can walk to The Treehouse with their guide and spend the night there under the African sky. Or they can relax in the comfortable bandas, swim in the pool or view game with their own private telescope. Guests can also visit Lake Tagalala and experience its famous hot springs or go on a boat ride and encounter hippos and crocodiles.

The traditional stone 'bandas' are great fun to sleep in, especially if you've only ever slept under canvas - and the outdoor showers are a welcome extra in the hot months.
