About Betty's Suite

The ultimate romantic retreat in Shela with astonishing views over the Atlantic Ocean.
Couples with a passion for tropical island life will love Lamu Island, with its historic, narrow-alleyed Lamu town, swaying-palm beaches necklaced with traditional dhows, and cheerful children playing football on the sands. And for the ideal romantic getaway, Betty's Suite is perfect. One of four units called The Moon Houses on a private property in Shela village, Betty's is a charming Swahili-style love nest, with a cool bedroom, sheltered dining area, out-of-this-world bathtub and infinity pool. In front of the property, the tranquil beach stretches for some 13 kilometres, perfect for hand-in-hand strolls.

Property details

The property

This is a stand-alone unit, with the manager, chef and steward on hand to serve your every need. You'll be supplied with a menu, and your meals will be prepared by your cook, who will shop for the ingredients, prepare the dishes and serve them in your private dining area or on the terrace. Your meal tariff is recorded on your account, which is always available for you to check.

The rooms

Built for romance, Betty's Suite has a large double bedroom with an antique pilipili bed draped in mosquito netting, and an exotic bathroom with a traditional sunken bath that offers exceptional views. The elaborate entrance to the toilet is a fitting entrance to the "throne room"! On the covered terrace, low L-shaped couches with squashy floral hand-sewn cushions invite you to snuggle up and take in the views across the pool, gardens and palms to the ocean beyond.

Activities

Snorkel off the reefs from a traditional dhow, swim with a pod of dolphins that often passes through the waters here, or take in the sunset cruise along the shoreline. Explore Shela, a fishing village, and lose yourself in Lamu town's labyrinth of winding alleyways – Lamu is Kenya's oldest continually inhabited town, established as a Swahili settlement in 1370. Then head to Lamu harbour to see donkeys offloading goods, and stop to enjoy the catch of the day.
