The reed and thatched main area is nestled on a section of the riverbank beneath a grove of magnificent Ebony trees. It has a charming, rustic feel, with open sides at the front, woven rush mats on the packed earthen floors, and a comfortable outdoor lounge overlooking the riverbed. There's a small, well-stocked bar, and a central dining area out in the open - a great vantage point for watching wildlife, particularly when small pools of water remain.
Three grass-walled double or twin chalets face out onto the riverbed, linked to the main area via a pathway beneath the trees. They are very basic, with roll-up window panels in the front, swept earthen floors and reed mats underfoot, comfortable beds with bright, African-inspired linen, and solar lamps for the evenings. The outdoor bathrooms are simple yet functional with proper flushing toilets, a hand basin, and a shower with hot and cold running water.
Exploring the bush on foot gives you the chance to discover this pristine wilderness at a gentle pace, whilst absorbing every single sight and sound. This area of the park is regarded as one of Zambia's best locations for leopards, and impressive herds of elephant and buffalo are frequently encountered together with a variety of plains game and some remarkable birdlife. The early morning and afternoon walks with your knowledgeable local guides also make for phenomenal photographic opportunities. And, if you’re feeling really adventurous, pair this camp with Chikoko Tree Camp and walk between the two.
