A visit to The Blue Margouillat Hotel is like stepping back in time (in a very good way!). Surrounded by lush gardens, the charming boutique hotel is more like a stylish house, built in the traditional Creole style, and bedecked with stunning artworks inside and quirky sculptures in the garden. Situated on the trendy west coast, in the quieter Saint-Leu area, 18 km from popular, Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, the hotel is a five minute stroll from the beach. And the best bit? The property

Surrounded by tropical gardens, The Blue Margouillat Hotel beautifully combines indoor and outdoor living. The restaurant, bar and lounge areas all lead out to a spacious deck and the large outdoor pool, where there are plenty of crisp white sun loungers waiting to be lounged upon. A beautifully-furnished library boasts an excellent collection of travel books, and the owners' love of art is on display with a rich collection of paintings, sculptures and ceramics by local artists, waiting to be admired. There's also a souvenir shop and a wellness spa on site.

The rooms

The Blue Margouillat offers 12 guest bedrooms, and two luxury suites complete with spacious living rooms. To make the most of the space in the guest bedrooms, the raised bathrooms are open plan and separated by a voile curtain (loos are separate!). In the suites, bathrooms are enclosed, and there's also an open-air, outdoor shower and a jacuzzi to look forward to. All rooms have large terraces for view-gazing, and organic products and lovely crisp linens add a spot of luxury.

Activities

The Blue Margouillat Hotel is the perfect base from which to explore Reunion Island's many adventure activities and sites. Staff members are able to arrange helicopter flips over the dramatic landscapes, sailing trips and game-fishing outings along the coast. You're also within easy reach of the active Piton de la Fournaise volcano and the island's two calderas (ideal for guided trekking).
