The main lodge is a restored farmhouse, which was built in 1908. Don’t expect anything fancy. There are stone floors, beige walls and some historic memorabilia on the walls, and it’s clean, neat and functional. Here you will find the restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining options, reception, a curio shop, wifi area and bar. The sparkling blue swimming pool overlooking the rugged desert is set away from the lodge, as are the guest rooms.
Built to blend into the natural environment, the 25 guest rooms are built of stone and thatch. Units quite literally mould into the rocky hillside. Some en-suite bathrooms boast a rotund boulder to sit or balance your shampoo on. Beds are comfortable, there's air conditioning, mosquito nets, a writer's desk and private patio overlooking the view.
Between lazy days by the pool, long lunches and reading your book on your private patio you can take a guided tour to the Fish River Canyon or get adventurous and travel along the canyon floor on a three to four day canyon trail. If you’ve got a 4 x 4 head along Wildebeest Drive for stunning views and plains game. Hike the rocky hills behind the lodge for sunset or get a greater vantage point on the lodge’s pre-arranged sunset drive.
Hike across the chasms, admire the view and discover the history behind the geographical masterpiece.
