There is so much to do and see around Cape Town you probably won’t be hanging out at the hotel that much. However, it does have a beautiful winter lounge with a log burning fireplace, soft Persian rug and two chesterfield sofas with matching ottoman for you to relax on. Across the wide hallway you’ll find the blue library with more comfortable seats, a small array of books, a computer and wide bay windows overlooking the street. The breakfast room is sunny and simple with homely wooden tables and chairs. Throughout the hotel and on your room walls you’ll find a tasteful array of South African art. If it wasn't a heritage hotel it could be an art hotel … on second thought … perhaps they are the same thing.
Inspired by the Cape’s early history as a VOC colony, the rooms are beautifully curated with teak beams and 200-year-old yellowwood floors. King size extra-length beds are the centre piece with chandeliers, wide bay windows, velvet headrests, oriental treasures and perfectly matched antique furniture. Each guest room is unique and looks just like a masterpiece from the era the building originates. Of the fifteen guest rooms there are also two suites offering extra opulence and for those looking to bring family or enjoy a long-stay, there are modern two-bedroom apartments, which can sleep up to six, have fully equipped kitchens and two bathrooms. All the creature comforts are on hand such as air-conditioning, mini bar, satellite TV and wifi.
Because of your fantastic location you can access many of Cape Town’s top sightseeing sports (Bo Kaap, Green Market Square, V&A Waterfront, the Company Gardens, District Six Museum and more) on foot. If you want to travel to Table Mountain, Camps Bay or the Constantia Winelands, jump on the hop-on, hop-off bus, which is just two blocks away. Save the date for the first Thursday of every month when all the locals come out to stroll the galleries and sip craft beer on the curbside, late into the evening. Also on Thursday’s enjoy lunch from one of the stalls at the bustling market along St George’s mall. You won’t be disappointed.
