About Casa Pestagua

Deep history and artful architecture await at the most beautiful casa in Cartagena.
The former home of the Count of Pestagua, this casa is often referred to as the most beautiful house in Cartagena. And once you clap eyes on it, you're sure to agree. An 18th-century, Moorish-inspired mansion, it's a vision in white with grand archways, courtyards watched over by royal palms and beamed ceilings. The hotel also boasts an impressive location in the walled city of Cartagena de Indias and has splendid views over the cobbled streets and yolk-yellow buildings. You'll have plenty of opportunity to explore, whether you fancy shopping for handicrafts at the market or delving into the city's history at one of the many museums.

Property details

The property

Casa Pestagua is a handsome structure with wrought-iron detailing, aged columns and glorious, painted ceilings. Set under the arcades, the AniMare Restaurant celebrates the flavours of the hotel's roots with a selection of Caribbean and Pacific Coast dishes. When you just want to relax, head into the garden and cool off in the shaded pool or snooze on one of the loungers. In the evenings, enjoy an expertly crafted cocktail from the bar and chat with other guests in the courtyard.

The rooms

Sitting beneath double-height ceilings, there are 11 suites and five rooms that open onto a breezy balcony. Decorated in warm, neutral tones, each is equipped with plush beds draped in premium linens, comfortable living areas, and walk-in closets. The bathrooms are huge with freestanding tubs and rainfall showers, as well as Ortigia Sicilia products. The Count of Pestagua Suite is the most prestigious, with exclusive elevator access, a private terrace and hot tub.

Activities

The hotel will happily arrange rum or coffee tastings, as well as cooking classes where you can pick up a few classics to make at home. Take a tour of the city, from the Spanish churches to the fortress, Castillo San Felipe de Barajas (the view over Cartagena is incredible). The hotel also has a private beach club on Baru Island, which can be reached via a 45-minute boat ride. You can also visit the Museo del Oro Zenu to learn all about the impressive gold-smithing skills of Colombia's indigenous people.
