An enormous split-level structure sits at the centre of the lodge grounds, with views over the dramatic gorge. With high ceilings and wide archways, wooden beams and the tasteful use of other natural materials like stone, the architecture and decor compliments and never detracts from the surrounds. There is plenty of room to seat guests from the relatively large ten-room main lodge, plus visitors from the adjacent self-catering lodge with its four double units and one family room. The fireside lounge feels both grand and homely. A large outdoor patio hosts many meals, as does the thatched dining room with big windows and fold-away doors. In between the structures are stone walkways, maincured gardens and a pool worthy of a tropical resort.
The ten thatched luxury chalets at the main camp command tremendous views - sit on your dark-wood deck and observe the ongoing elephant traffic at the river below. The sunken bedroom is tastefully furnished - neither overly stylish nor minimalist. Ensuite bathrooms, tea and coffee stations and a minibar offer guests everything they need to feel right at home in their rooms while making use of the other lodge facilities. Four twin chalets and one family chalet (that sleeps six) have ensuite bathrooms but share a common kitchen, braai area and plunge pool within a shady garden. Guests staying here are also welcome to make use of the main camp's facilities.
No matter which activity you undertake (of Chilo's dizzying array), you will be accompanied by a top-notch guide. In addition to morning and afternoon game drives, you can take a boat cruise or a canoe trip (when water levels allow) for some up-close hippo and elephant sightings. Walk in the park or take an awesome stroll to Chivilila Falls. Visit the local Mahenye village for a cultural tour. For an especially deep immersion in the wilderness, elect to sleep near Chilojo Cliffs at Chilo's adventurous tented camp.

An undeveloped wilderness where conservation is alive and well and game viewing is pretty good too.
