The vast lounge area is an inviting space to relax between game drives or meals. Nestle into plush white or burgundy linen couches, or curl up on rich leather sofas and loungers covered in African-inspired fabrics. Huge monochrome canvas wildlife prints are stretched across the walls. The airy dining room is neatly organised, with rather ordinary dining tables and chairs, drop-down canvas sides and a bar at one end. There is a glistening swimming pool for wallowing and sun-soaking.
Interspersed between Tamboti and Jackalberry trees, 22 canvas tents are raised up from the ground on stilts, overlooking parts of the river, and sleeping two per tent. Each tent is neatly laid out in simple safari style: white linen, rich safari tones, a desk and chair, cupboard, and a large king-sized bed, draped with a mosquito net. All rooms are en-suite. The Royal Suite is tucked away from the main lodge, with a private deck and plunge pool.
With the Big Five at your fingertips and two daily game drives overseen by knowledgeable and experienced guides, there will be wonderful opportunities to spot lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino and elephant, as well as plenty of other general game. Birdwatchers will be constantly enthralled, and those feeling active can take a guided walk up a rocky 'kopje' to get a magnificent view over the Lowveld. Sun seekers may simply want to sit around the pool absorbing the bushveld peace.
Where the Big Five roam and the mountains tower in the distance, this pint-sized reserve has a lot to offer.
