About Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel

A heritage hotel in Cape Town's city centre, perfect for the modern traveller.
Cloud 9 Boutique Hotel and Spa is hidden in the heart of Cape Town's historic central suburb, Tamboerskloof. It opened its doors in 2016 after combining five Victorian heritage properties dating back to 1892. A walk-through is like paging through the history books, with the original marble fireplaces, pressed ceilings and wooden floors all beautifully preserved. That said, this 47-room hotel manages to honour the past while looking to the future, with modern luxuries in every room. Return from a day of shopping on nearby Kloof Street and enjoy a refreshing 'sundowner' drink at the rooftop bar while admiring the 360-degree views of the city and Table Mountain.

Property details

The property

The hotel's swanky rooftop bar has to be one of our favourite spots for an evening cocktail as the sun goes down – and because Cloud 9 is so central, it’s only a short hop to wherever you’re off to next. During the day, lounge around one of the plunge pools (one has a retractable roof, the other has the views) or have a dip in the beckoning Jacuzzi that's guaranteed to bubble your troubles away. There’s also an on-site sauna and spa with three treatments rooms, and Charlie’s Bistro is part of the hotel, should you find yourself in need of a handy snack option.

The rooms

Oil painting-style Victorian elements meet what could be the glossy pages of House & Leisure, in Cloud 9's 47 picture-perfect rooms. Neutral tones are lifted by splashes of bright colour in the form of turquoise pillows and crimson throws, giving the rooms a fresh, energised atmosphere. All rooms are en-suite, with a Nespresso machine, fridge, Ultra HD TV and Wi-Fi. Be sure to pull back the curtains as most rooms offer a city, courtyard, garden or mountain view.

Activities

The hotel is a mere 15-minute drive from some of Cape Town's trendiest hangouts. Visit the V&A Waterfront for some retail therapy, Camps Bay's beachfront strip for the hottest eateries and 'drinkeries', and Clifton Beaches for sun, sea and sand. Or spend a leisurely day strolling through the leafy Company's Garden before enjoying a delicious dinner and an artsy flick at the charismatic Labia, a charming, old-school movie theatre (they even do great weekly dinner-and-movie specials).

What you'll love

The roof terrace. A Cape Town hotspot, it’s got unhindered and absolutely breath-taking 360-degree views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, the Atlantic Ocean (on the other side) and the city-centre concrete jungle.

Insiders Tip

Nab a room on the top floor to make the most of the views. You don’t visit Cape Town every day after all!
Something to think about

Something to think about

You are smack-bang in the middle of the city and some of the bars across the street get rowdy at the weekend. This is real city living.
