Property details

The property

Inspired by the ancient Collagua constructions and keeping absolute harmony with the surroundings, the lodge was built using mud, stones and straw. Two restaurants serve international and local dishes, but there's a definite focus on Andean cuisine. The intimate spa treatments come with unbeatable natural backdrops, but the highlights of the lodge are the lithium-rich thermal baths: the four pools, fed by natural hot springs, sit overlooking the river and are a heavenly place to unwind.

The rooms

There are 45 individual cabin-type rooms spread around the property, all with the characteristic straw-thatched roofs. Rustic yet elegant, they all offer postcard-worthy views of the valley and gardens - and the shower even has a small window for blue sky views. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and private terraces add to the charm, as does the creative heating system using geothermal energy. Even better, there are no TVs - this lodge is all about connecting with nature.

Activities

Colca Lodge is ideal for nature-loving travellers and kids, as well as those looking to genuinely disconnect. There’s plenty of walking, cycling and hiking to be done in the area, including to the nearby Uyo Uyo ruins. A visit to the Andean Condor lookout is always an option - or you can try to spot one in the distance from the hotel terrace. And of course, an hour or two at the hot springs each day can’t hurt!

What you'll love

Aside from the hot springs, the lodge’s commitment to having minimal impact on the environment is notable. They use geothermal and solar energy extensively and even have an onsite water treatment plant.

Insiders Tip

Take the time to walk down to the river, cross the charming hanging bridge and visit the alpaca farm. It's worth it!
Something to think about

Something to think about

The hot springs are located right by the river bank, so it’s a bit of a walk down (and then up). Also, keep in mind they’re closed a few weeks a year during the rainy season.
