The charming main tent peeps out from beneath a shaggy thatched roof, with an open-plan lounge, bar and dining room set around a beautiful earthen fire pot. Rustic, comfortable couches and chunky, locally-made timber furniture add to the natural African feel, with earthy tones which take on a warm glow beneath the soft hurricane lanterns in the evenings. The traditional outdoor boma with an open fire pit is a great spot to relax after dinner and enjoy the night skies.
Fifteen tents under thatch are spread out along the hillside on high timber platforms, with private balconies facing over the plantation and surrounding forests. Bathrooms are en-suite with hot running water, a flush toilet and a shower. Each tent can accommodate three people very comfortably, with a double and single bed. Interiors are spacious yet cosy, with rich ochre tones, the warm shine of polished wood, and a delightful traditional African fire pot to keep the highland chills at bay.
Tours of the plantation provide an interesting insight into the coffee production process from start to finish. The hilly terrain around the plantation has a number of mountain biking and hiking trails that set out from the camp. Cultural visits to traditional Maasai villages can be arranged, together with game drives in the Ngorongoro National Park. Guided bush walks in the Ngorongoro Forest offer some excellent birdwatching opportunities, and the chance to track elephant, buffalo and other wildlife on foot.
