About Damaraland Camp

Award-winning and heart-warming, this camp oozes personality
Damaraland Camp, or D-Camp as it is familiarly called, is one of Namibia’s most established and well-loved properties. A fun and sociable camp, where laughter and singing is actively encouraged, it's expertly run by a tight knit team of long-serving staff. The camp, 100% owned by the local Torra Conservancy, is often used to exemplify how community-based tourism can, and does, work. Great base for self-drivers and fly-in guests to explore the unique topography of the Damaraland, with its dry riverbeds and flat-topped mountains, and for wildlife enthusiasts, a rare chance to track the desert-adapted species, including elephant and rhino.

Property details

The property

Built with natural materials, the light colour scheme and openness of the main area keeps the air flowing and creates a wide screen panoramic view effect. An outdoor pool, with double loungers and umbrellas for shade, is the perfect spot for an afternoon siesta and cooling dip. There's an indoor and sunken outdoor sofa seating area, a bar, handily within easy reach of the pool, and a giant-sized ‘Family Table’, where long lunches and lively dinners are enjoyed.

The rooms

The camps ten chalets, canvas sides with thatched roofs, are raised on wooden platforms. Families and friends travelling together should consider their two bedroomed Family Unit. Walk into a large open-plan bedroom, dressing area and desk space. All rooms have ensuite, rustic yet stylish, bathrooms with flush loo, double sinks and a shower. Unzip the tent, roll back the canvas and enjoy the views from your private deck or your king size bed.

Activities

Clients are encouraged to explore the surrounding wilderness on foot and in 4x4 vehicles. Hike up one of the many rocky outcrops to marvel at the Damaraland scenery from an elevated viewpoint, visit ancient rock art at Twyfelfontein World Heritage Site, or take a guided drive in search of desert-adapted species, including elephant, rhino, brown hyena, and cheetah. A visit to one of the local villages, where many of the staff come from, and still live, is also highly recommended.

Insiders Tip

Tents 8, 9 and 10 are the most private, being set furthest away from the communal areas, with uninterrupted views across the surrounding valley.
Something to think about

Something to think about

It’s really worth hiking the Damarana Trail—a two hour trail from camp. It’s rather steep towards the end, but well worth it for the expansive valley views.
