High thatched ceilings and rich, dark wooden flooring lit by romantic downlighting reflects the deep oranges and reds of the walls of the central Mahogany Bar, its open sides leading out to the enormous main pool, which lies like a crescent blue moon. The main restaurant, L'Harmonie, offers a relaxed buffet dishes and well-spaced tables. Il Gusto caters for fans of Italian cuisine; La Plage is an informal bar on the beach; and Umami is a fine-dining, pan-Asian evening venue.
Spanning the property's shoreline is a series of multilevel Mauritian-style suites and villas, 172 in all, grouped around pools set between towering palms. All are spacious, neatly tiled and open to outdoor terraces of varying sizes (the villas have the largest, as you'd expect), although some visitors may find the mahogany, brown and cream decor a little dated. Not all rooms face the ocean, so make sure of your location when making your reservation.
Water babies will be delighted at all the options available here. The kite surfing is fantastic, as are the scuba diving (PADI center onsite), deep-sea fishing, boat trips, sailing and stand-up paddle boarding. Anyone for golf? The 18-hole golf course attracts players from around the globe. There are tennis courts, bikes to hire, and a spa and fitness centre. Climb bird-filled Le Morne and photograph the heavenly views from the summit. Or simply relax poolside or on the beach.
