Lower Zambezi National Park is well-loved for its diverse landscapes and, at its heart, the majestic, life-giving Zambezi River. This region of southern Zambia is a pristine wilderness, home to large numbers of Africa's animal icons, especially lion, elephant and leopard. And it's the setting of Anabezi Camp, a truly lovely place that provides everything you want from a safari holiday and more. The hospitality and guiding are first-rate, the array of activities both on ground and the river are exhilarating, the tented accommodation and interiors are quietly elegant. And the food – it's good, very good.

The camp shelters beneath beautiful old ana (winter thorn) trees, its buildings perched atop wooden platforms. Canvas and reeds create the roofs and walls of the main area's rambling structures. Dining happens under cover or on the veranda, usually at separate tables. There's a large, open-sided lounge for relaxing and a bar beside the small plunge pool. Beneath the deck is a sandy boma area, with a campfire at its centre. Breakfasts are sometimes served here, and exciting traditional dinners.
Elevated wooden walkways lead to 12 tented suites, all large and generously spaced within the riverine forest. Enter through the sitting room (with a minibar), into the spacious bedroom, furnished with either a double or king-sized bed draped with mosquito netting and, mercifully, a ceiling fan. The dressing area leads into a large bathroom with a double basin, shower and freestanding tub. There's also an outdoor shower and huge deck with a private plunge pool and sun loungers.
Enjoy tailor-made tours of this beautiful park by land or water. From game drives (day and night) to walking and canoe trails and motorboat trips, the menu of activities is extensive and the knowledge of those who conduct them is equally deep. The region is well-known for its relaxed, and plentiful, wildlife viewing. Expect to see a host of predators (lion, leopard, hyena) and other mammals (buffalo, elephant, kudu) as well as the less common species (sable, wild dog).
The location. Anabezi is in one of the loveliest (in our eyes) areas of the park, in the serene eastern sector, and there’s pretty much no one else around to disturb your peace and quiet.
The dining experience here is out of this world. Without giving too much away, we'll just say that the variety of food and the locations in which they're served make mealtimes an adventure in themselves.
If you’re travelling with a friend, the indoor bathroom doesn’t offer much privacy!
Anabezi Luxury Camp is owned by Robin Pope Safaris, and committed to responsible tourism that benefits the environment, wildlife conservation, and local communities. They employ green technology, support anti-poaching efforts, provide healthcare and education, and promote local trade. Staff are treated fairly, trained extensively, and encouraged to advance. Their operations aim to protect ecosystems and alleviate poverty through sustainable practices. A contribution of $10 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
