Eden Lodge's property extends over more than eight hectares, and its eight suites have been designed to blend perfectly with the surroundings. The decor throughout, created by designer Frédérique Glainereau, is an appealing combination of elegant and ethnic design. The open-plan, timber-framed main area has a bar and dining room in which you're served a small but varied choice of dishes, which change each day and are all very good.
The eight suites – spacious safari tents protected by timber-framed structures made of local materials – all face the sea and lie no more than 25 metres from the water's edge. Air flows freely throughout the suites, which have large openings protected by mosquito nets and, indoors, king-sized beds and an en-suite bathroom with shower. Each has a private terrace, where you can enjoy a massage, and a balcony on which to enjoy the ocean view.
On site, you can swim, sunbathe, watch whales and dolphins offshore, stroll on the sand or play local games, including boules, with the staff. Explore the forest with a guide by day or in the evening to see the unusual trees and undergrowth, lemurs and the rich birdlife, including black parrot, vasa parrot and other endemic species such as coua (a member of the cuckoo family) and drongo. Off-site, visit Nosy Tanikely Marine Reserve to see the pristine coral.
Madagascar’s top beach location is low-key, heavenly and offers tranquil land and water activities.
