About El Mangroove

A beachside getaway with stylish suites, a fabulous spa & watersports galore.
Sitting amongst the trees on the Gulf of Papagayo, the 'Riviera of Costa Rica', El Mangroove has the luxe-casual vibe down to a tee. Designed by prominent Costa Rican architect, Ronald Zurcher, it's very modern-chic and the design is linear and clean with whimsical additions where you least expect them. Located beside a tranquil bay, there's a bevy of aquatic activities on offer including kayaking, paddleboarding and surfing, as well as scuba diving amongst the bull sharks and teeny-tiny sea horses. And of course, there are plenty of places to recline back at the resort - volcanic clay wrap anyone?

Property details

The property

El Mangroove embraces al-fresco living and most of the spaces are open air, including the beachfront bar, the lunch spot, Matiss, and Makoko, which serves farm-(or should that be ocean?)-to-table dinners prepared by a Michelin-starred chef. Breakfast is a buffet with eggs to order and an array of Costa Rican specialties. In the Bearth Spa, treat yourself to a nature-inspired massage on one of the outdoor terraces, then head to the pool: surrounded by private cabanas and lime-striped loungers (and a hot tub!), it's the perfect place for some R&R.

The rooms

There are 85 rooms, ranging from canopy to beachfront suites, which all embody Costa Rica's Pura Vida lifestyle. Understated and airy, all are decorated in creamy tones with plenty of light wood, designed to mimic a smooth pebble. Spacious is the key word here and even the bathrooms could be described as four rooms in one! Each room also has a living area and terrace with incredible views, while the most luxurious, the El Mangle Suite, has a private plunge pool, kitchen and direct beach access too.

Activities

Take your pick from the menu of activities: scuba diving, snorkelling, jet skiing and paddle-boarding (the sunset outing is incredible) and many more. Set sail on the 40-foot Sea Cloud for a day of beach-hopping or a sundowner cruise, or stay on land with a visit to Santa Rosa National Park, the largest in Costa Rica, for fantastic hiking trails and sea turtle nesting spots. Oh, and look out for whales and dolphins along the way. Back at the hotel, the Kids' Zone offers fun and informative activities for children under 12.
