Getting here means 27km of Tarangire before you even arrive, which tells you most of what you need to know. This is a premium tented lodge inside the park rather than out on its fringes, small enough that you will learn the names of everyone at the bar, and all-inclusive, so the bar is not something you have to think about. Canvas, timber and a great deal of glass, built with a light footprint and not preachy about it, and a wellness side taken more seriously than most safari lodges bother with. Couples, families and small groups all fit, though never many at once. Mornings belong to the elephants. Afternoons can be spent doing very little, at considerable length.

Canvas roofs sit low over glass walls, so the savannah is never further away than a pane. The restaurant and the bar-lounge do the social work, the pool does the rest, and the spa keeps a treatment room for the days when a long morning in a vehicle catches up with you. A gym and a yoga deck too, which is not standard issue out here. Sunken seating around a firepit for after dinner. Everything points at the grass.
Nine deluxe tents, one family tent and a villa, each running to 73 square metres, which is generous by tented standards. Beds come as king, twin or triple, with an extra bed if you need a third. Every tent gets a private deck and a bathtub deep enough to matter. Glass pendant lights and moss-green cushions soften the dark timber. The villa keeps its own plunge pool, which makes it the obvious pick for two couples travelling together.
Tarangire's elephant herds are the big ones, hundreds of animals moving between baobabs that were already ancient when your great-grandparents were born. Being inside the park means you meet them before anyone drives out from Arusha.
Each tent has an indoor shower and an outdoor one. Use the outdoor one at dusk, when the plains start making noise and the light goes copper, and you will forget there is a perfectly good bathroom a few steps away.
The main gate sits 27km off, and the only approach is by road from Arusha or Kilimanjaro. That makes arrival and departure days long ones, most of them spent in a vehicle rather than looking at elephants.
