The main area is cleverly built among giant boulders, creating a flow that winds sinuously from indoor to out, and back again. Cross a small bridge above a fish pond that's surrounded overhung by weavers' nests to enter the bar and split-level lounge/dining room. Wind out again to the rim-flow swimming pool, reception and terrace. Upstairs is an observation deck with plenty of comfortable seating. Dinners are à la carte, and on a clear night, may be served outdoors.
The camp currently has 12 luxury en-suite mountain-facing tents and five larger lodge-style suites, the latter with deep tubs as well as showers. All are elevated, and have superb interiors. (You know you're going to sleep well when the mattress is deep and the duvet defines snuggly.) Beyond sliding doors, your private veranda overlooks the plains and Amboseli National Park, and Kili's heights. Your bathroom-with-a-view is built of natural rock and acacia wood, and solar-powered hot running water is standard.
The area surrounding camp has a decent cross-section of wildlife, though density here is less that at neighbouring Amboseli. Still, you're likely to glimpse a good range of species – Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelle, zebra, eland, warthog, lion, leopard and giraffe (elephant, buffalo and wildebeest tend to be more migratory). However, the beauty of Satao Elerai is really its front-row view of Mount Kili (often covered in cloud, sadly). Game-watching at Amboseli is superb, with few visitors and incredible sightings.
