About Etosha Heights Safarihoek Lodge

Modern comfort at this large, stone-and-thatch lodge in Namibia's game-rich Etosha region.
Travel to Namibia’s arid northern wilderness and you'll find vast gravel plains interrupted by occasional rocky ridges, stretches of mopane trees and lots of game around Etosha's permanent waterholes. Safarihoek Lodges lies in a private reserve on the southern edge of the national park, in the Etosha Heights Private Reserve. It’s a large, modern lodge that overlooks a huge waterhole, has far-reaching views and offers an exciting range of game-viewing activities. Lion and elephant are the stars of the landscape, and if rhinos are on your must-see list, you’ll more than likely be happy here!

Property details

The property

The main lodge has a beautiful position on an elevated platform overlooking the plains, with a large swimming pool and shaded sun terrace running the length of the deck. Inside, there's an elegant dining room (the food is superb), cosy lounge and bar, and a sunken air-conditioned wine lounge with huge windows offering views to the horizon. Outdoors, the circular stone fire-pit is a wonderful place to enjoy a sundowner or two before dinner under the stars. Wi-fi available.

The rooms

Safari Hoek has two standard chalets and eight slightly larger luxury chalets, plus a family unit with two bedrooms and a comfortable lounge. You'll enjoy the blend of classic safari elements (vaulted thatched ceilings, cool flagstone floors and romantic drapes of mosquito net ) and modern, uncluttered style with ethnically inspired splashes of colour. All chalets have en-suite bathrooms (the luxury chalets have both indoor and outdoor showers). Private wooden verandas offer great views.

Activities

Game viewing in this part of Namibia is consistently good, particularly during the dry winter months when game congregates around the permanent waterholes. Large herds of elephant are frequently seen, together with black and white rhino, oryx, eland and other antelope, and lion. Birdwatching, particularly at the water holes, is very productive. Bush walks and all-day game drives into Etosha are offered; night drives often produce a surprise in the form of aardvark sightings.

Spending a morning in the split-level viewing hide beside the waterhole. It’s a great place to watch, and photograph, the constant stream of wildlife visitors.

Insiders Tip

Safarihoek has a slightly smaller sister property, Etosha Mountain Lodge, but the photographic hide is only available if you’re staying at Safarihoek. The choice is yours!
Something to think about

Something to think about

The lodge is large and not particularly elegant in its design, but it’s practical and comfortable, and the game viewing is excellent.

Etosha Heights Safarihoek is owned by Natural Selection which is dedicated to conservation, partnering with local communities, governments, and organizations to protect and expand conservation areas. They build eco-friendly camps that blend into the environment and aim to inform guests about Africa's wildlife challenges and successes, hoping to inspire further positive action for wildlife conservation. A contribution of $27,40 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
