Property details

The property

Evergreen Manor is a two-storey homestead with well-preserved Victorian features such as the distinctive wrought-iron trim, known locally as broekie-lace (underwear lace), along the covered entrance veranda. The vintage feel continues indoors, with high exposed timber ceilings, warm polished wooden floors under colourful rugs, and beautiful antique furniture. Two guest lounges offer plenty of seating, and breakfast is served in the conservatory (we recommend the omelettes!) overlooking the pool and sun terrace. The on-site spa offers melting post-sightseeing massages.

The rooms

Nine roomy suites are set over both floors – five inside the main house, and four with separate garden entrances. Each room is designed differently, but all feature genuine antique furnishings of the period, en-suite bathrooms with underfloor heating (deliciously toasty in winter), double basins, deep tubs or Victorian slipper baths, and showers. Modern comforts include satellite television, wi-fi, minibars and a tea and coffee station.

Activities

Stellenbosch is well-known for its oak-lined streets and charming historical buildings, its rugged mountains and vineyards that roll on and on. Stroll into town and explore the lively cafes and restaurants, or browse for trinkets in the numerous art and craft galleries. Be sure to take in a wine-tasting tour, and go hiking in the stunning nature reserves nearby. Sandy beaches are within easy driving distance, or you could simply stay put and indulge in a spa treatment.
