Over the past few years, Hyatt has made serious inroads in Japan and the Grand Hyatt Tokyo's location, tucked into the heart of the international Roppongi district, is fantastic. Plugged directly into the sprawling Roppongi Hills complex (think 250 shops, restaurants, galleries and an observatory), you're ideally positioned for exploring Tokyo's electric neighbourhoods - and most highlights are within 20 minutes or so by subway. And with 387 mahogany-clad rooms, 10 restaurants spanning French bistro fare to legendary steakhouse cuts, an indoor red granite pool, and the serene Nagomi Spa, there's plenty to do back at your (very slick) base.

Designed to feel residential rather than corporate, the public spaces are all about rich mahogany finishings and sumptuous fabrics. For foodies, there is a ridiculous array of dining options to choose from, including the The Oak Door's sizzling steaks, French Kitchen's all-day bistro fare, and Roku Roku's fabulous sushi at an intimate counter. On the fifth-floor, the 1,300 square-metre Nagomi Spa is a sanctuary of relaxation, with a 20-metre red granite pool, hydrotherapy facilities, sauna, steam room, and plunge pools. The 24-hour gym has a great variety of equipment, whilst spa treatments incorporate beautiful Japanese ingredients.
Spanning 42 square metres minimum, the rooms are a good size by Japanese standards. All are modern and minimal with Egyptian cotton Frette linens and B&B Italia furniture. Occupying over a quarter of the space, the bathrooms steal the show with their deep soaking tubs, perfectly positioned for the best city views, rain showers, and those wonderful heated Japanese toilets. Higher floors offer glimpses of the Tokyo Tower, whilst suites add living areas and marble bathrooms. Finishing touches include blackout curtains to combat jet lag and elegant yukata robes.
You are right in the heart of glitzy Roppongi Hills and the designer shopping, TOHO Cinemas, and the 52nd-floor Tokyo City View observatory require zero commute. The Mori Art Museum is just next door, whilst Tokyo Tower, Meiji Jingu shrine, and Ginza are short subway rides away. Roppongi's legendary nightlife can also be enjoyed within minutes, if the mood takes you. The concierge can also arrange day trips to Hakone's hot springs, Nikko's temples, and Kamakura's shrines. And, back at base, working through the ten restaurants could honestly occupy your entire stay...
