About Halong Violet

An intimate cruise with top-notch service and sublime views of Halong Bay.
Legend has it that the limestone towers of Halong Bay were once jewels that spilled out of the mouth of a dragon, and this love for the mythical found its way on board the Violet. Dubbed the youngest of Heritage Line's ships, it has an elegant design and rooms decorated with a collection of French Art-Deco pieces. There are just six boutique cabins, each with a style inspired by unique names like Dragon and Moon. Over one or two days, kayak round the islands to find a sun-drenched cove and play explorer on a trek through hushed caves.

Property details

The property

As tawny sails flutter overhead, the deck is laid with plump loungers for the day time and at night there's a private dining area lit with 'honeycomb' lanterns. Dotted with orchids and Asian silks, the restaurant has a 1930s feel, the perfect spot to enjoy a menu of Vietnamese fusion and seafood - and hearty buffets breakfasts. At the other end, the ornate bar serves libations and the library lounge is a cushy spot to enjoy a new read. Two spa rooms offer a selection of soothing massages - plus a steam room for couples.

The rooms

With honey-coloured walls and delicate nature-inspired murals, the suites are roomy and pristine. Glass doors lead onto a sunny balcony and it's worth leaving your curtains open to wake up to ethereal views. The bathrooms are finished with Italian marble and come complete with a large shower and tub. The Imperial Suites are top-tier with a cushy sitting area, painted landscapes and carved four-poster beds. Each air-conditioned room has tea/coffee facilities, a minibar, international plug sockets and traditional conical hats to wear on outings.

Activities

After tai chi at sunrise, the wonders of Halong Bay are yours to discover. Cruise to Soi Sim Island where a hike to its pinnacle reveals an endless landscape - and there's a lovely beach for a cooling dip. Kayak across azure waters to visit a floating pearl farm (and pick up the ultimate souvenir) before adventuring through Halong Bay's longest cave. Cycle the forest-lined roads of Cat Ba Island and in the evening, join the crew for a one-of-a-kind squid fishing experience.

Why we love it

Why we love it

The rooms are a delight - each has a traditional South East Asian theme, from gold-etched peacocks to dreamy cloud motifs.
