With the foothills of the Olifantsberg Mountains in the rear view mirror and the picturesque Walker Bay laid out before you, Harbour House Hotel is truly winning in the scenery stakes. The hotel itself is made up of three buildings; the original Manor House, the New Wing studios and, just across the road, Harbour Square, which has its own rooftop pool. When you tire of gazing at the view, Hermanus offers everything from scenic walks to antique shopping. It's also one of the best whale-watching destinations in the world and, if you're visiting between June and October, you can enjoy the benefits straight from the terrace at Harbour House.

Set in manicured gardens dotted with tall palms, the grand Manor House is the hotel's main hub. Hearty breakfasts are served at the casual, farm-style Selkirk's restaurant while the Wine Bar offers a selection of fabulous local wines and craft beers. The bar eases out onto the Lookout Terrace, where you can enjoy afternoon scones whilst scanning the water for whale spouts and pods of dolphins. With 180° views of the bay, the infinity pool is a lovely spot to while away the hours before catching a stunning sunset.
While there is a variety of accommodation on offer, they all share an elegant, understated style. The Manor House rooms are classic and beautiful, with millstone floors, solid cast bathtubs and quaint balconies - and the most luxurious boast a larger sitting area and wood-fired hot tub. The New Wing has a selection of more contemporary studios with kitchenettes, while the residences at Harbour Square are open-plan with a lounge, dining area and full kitchen. All rooms are equipped with extra-length king or twin beds, a Nespresso machine, tea/coffee facilities, SMEG mini bar, TV and wi-fi.
Hermanus' clifftop path begins just a few metres away from Harbour House, which is perfect for a scenic amble and land-based whale watching. Longer walking trails are available in some of the local reserves. For even closer views of the whales, take a boat cruise from the harbour and enjoy looking back to land too. In town, enjoy wine tasting, peruse the art and antique galleries, shop in the boutiques, or visit the Whale Museum. The hotel doesn't offer dinner but there is a bevy of fantastic restaurants within walking distance.

It’s famous for whale-watching, but the wine is also worth a taste in this laidback coastal town.
