The main lodge area is set under a permanent Bedouin tent. Earthy tones have been used in the modern decor to emulate the landscape outside. Two lounges are available alongside each other with ample seating space overlooking the vista. There is a dining room next door with floor to ceiling windows and private dining tables. Guests can spend the afternoon by the pool to cool off, which has an elevated porch for sun loungers. In the evening a fire is made in front of the lodge where you can swop tales from your luxury camping chairs.
The eight guest rooms (including a family room) all overlook the water hole and are luxurious with king size beds, floor to ceiling windows so you are connected to your environment, two modern armchairs and a coffee table. The adjoining bathrooms have a large shower area and his and her basins. Outside you can lounge under the shade of your Bedouin, on your grey L shaped couch. Tick off your birdlist from the writers desk, or enjoy your morning coffee with your beau from the circular coffee table overlooking the waterhole.
You will be surprised by the number of wild animals surviving in this tough environment, some of whom even visit the waterhole in front of the lodge for a much needed drink. Here on the edge of the Palmwag concession, game drives can present you with desert adapted elephants, lions, rhino, cheetah, giraffe, brown hyena, jackals, gemsbok and more. You must however be patient. Guided walks are also available and a unique day trip to the Skeleton coast through mountains, dunes and dry river beds is a highlight. On the beach you will enjoy a picnic, an astonishing sight of thousands of seals and then a scenic flight back to camp.
Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp is owned by Wilderness safaris which aims to double its conservation impact by 2030, protecting 6 million acres of land. Their framework focuses on Educate, Empower, and Protect pillars, building a conservation economy, nurturing future leaders, and preserving unfenced wilderness. Through immersive hospitality experiences and partnerships with nonprofits like Children in the Wilderness and the Wilderness Trust, they engage guests in conservation efforts and address diverse threats to wilderness, wildlife, and communities.
